EASA issued type certification for the "package C" version of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 jet engine, which will power the Boeing 787-9 when it enters service with launch customer Air New Zealand next year.

Boeing is preparing to conduct the first test flight of second largest variant of its 787 flagship aircraft. EASA has certified the engine for up to 74,000lb take-off thrust. The 787-8 will also be powered by the "package C" variant of the Trent 1000, according to a statement from Rolls-Royce. 
 
Rolls-Royce plans for a further upgrade to the engine, the Trent 1000-Ten, scheduled to enter service in 2016 providing power for the 787-10.
