Eleven miners have been trapped in a gold mine in southern Honduras after a landslide at the entrance.
The landslide occurred at a gold mine in San Juan Arriba in a vertical tunnel at a depth of about 80 m (260 ft), BBC News updated quoting firefighter spokesman Oscar Triminio.
A rescue operation is underway at the site which is in San Juan Arriba, 70 miles south of the capital, Tegucigalpa.
Three of the workers have already made contact with firefighters, though eight are still missing.
Lieutenant Manuel de Jesus Reyes, a firefighter in the nearby city of Choluteca, said: "We have had contact with three of the workers that are trapped and we are working carefully removing earth and stone to reach and rescue them."
Reyes also added that the rescue team are working carefully and slowly in order to avoid causing another landslide.
Oxygen is being passed to miners by a hose and the workers are communicating by shouting, said the head of the Choluteca firefighters, Siriaco Diaz.
