Harkening back to the days of Old, Norwegian designers Lade SE have created an interesting merchant ship concept that uses wind to partial power the vessel.
Unlike caravels that once sailed the world’s oceans, Lade’s Vindskip would use its specially shaped hull to harness the power of the wind.
According to its designers the vessel, which is shaped like a symmetrical airfoil, would act as a sail-like device pushing the boat through the ocean.
All in all the Vindskip’s designers believe their boat can harness enough wind to decrease merchant ship emissions by 80 percent and save boat operator some 60 percent in fuel costs.
