Ford Reveals The Three Engine Options Of The Much Awaited Figo Aspire

While Ford had previewed its forthcoming sedan on a couple of occasions, the company has now revealed the technical specifications of the much-awaited Figo Aspire in detail.

The Ford Figo Aspire will be made available in three engine options- two petrol and one diesel- with two transmission options to choose from. The petrol range comprises a 1.2-litre and a 1.5-litre unit whereas the diesel models will come powered by a 1.5-litre engine.

The 1.2 petrol is derived from the currently available Ford Figo, albeit it has been heavily tweaked and now features ‘Ti-VCT’ technology, or in general speak, variable valve timing. The engine develops 88PS of maximum power output and 112Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and delivers a claimed fuel economy of 18.16km/l.

Next up on offer will be the bigger 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol motor that churns out a maximum power output of 112PS (most-powerful in its class!) along with 136 Nm of peak-torque. This engine is only offered with a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and returns 17 km/l.

The breadwinner for Ford will be the diesel engine of the compact sedan though – the 1.5 litre TDCi Duratorq engine. This is the same engine that does duty on the EcoSport and the Fiesta diesel in the country. However, in the Figo Aspire the engine has been up-tuned to produce 100PS of maximum power while dishing out the segment best torque figure of 215Nm. The diesel powertrain will come paired to a 5- speed manual transmission and has an ARAI certified mileage of 25.83km/l.

On paper, the Ford Figo Aspire looks mighty impressive and measures up quite well against its competitors. It has also been decently packaged with features and equipment across all variants.

The Ford Figo Aspire certainly has the potential to be a massive hit among customers in India, however, that will greatly depend on how aggressively Ford chooses to price it
